About Knutsen OAS Shipping

Knutsen OAS Shipping is a fully integrated shipping company with operation, newbuilding supervision, chartering and project development in-house.

Knutsen OAS Shipping is undertaking the commercial and technical management/operation of all LNG carriers and the Product/Chemical tankers. Knutsen OAS Shipping has also administrative support functions and newbuilding supervision services for Knutsen NYK Offshore Tankers AS (KNOT).

We have a branch office in Spain, Knutsen OAS España, S.A. This office is located in Madrid and it is managing the commercial operation, business development, customer daily contact point and crewing for the LNG vessels under Spanish flag.

The Knutsen fleet development is based on managing projects from design to operation, with organic growth. We have an active approach regarding development and implementation of new technology.

As per beginning of 2022, we have in total 18 vessels in operation; 15 LNG carriers and 3 product/chemical tankers. In addition, Knutsen has 15 LNG carriers under construction.

Knutsen has extensive construction supervision experience from 66 newbuilt ships, 10 ship conversions in the past and is currently undertaking 18 newbuilding projects.

The current onshore staff is in approximate 200, with a about 2000 officers and crew. The Knutsen crew is highly skilled and trained with over 20 years experience from LNG carriers, Product/ Chemical tankers and offshore operations. Our crewing system is self-sustained based on a high extent of internal promotion and former cadets employment.

We have a strong focus on technology development, and is world leading technology provider in marine transportation of compressed natural gas with its proprietary Knutsen PNG® Technology. Knutsen has also its own proprietary technology for VOC reduction during tanker loading, Knutsen KVOC® Technology, and has developed new technology for ballast water treatment for large tankers, KBAL®. The KBAL® technology is USCG and revised IMO qualified. 

Our objective is to maintain a fleet of high quality- and technically advanced vessels. Every vessel we own and operate is of a high technical standard. Knutsen OAS Shipping is committed to deliver environmentally friendly services and products at a level of Quality, Health, Security and Safety that complies with the requirements of our HSSE&QA Management System, international & statutory regulations and meets or exceeds our contractual and legal obligations. Knutsen OAS Shipping AS is certified according to ISM, ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, ISO 45001:2018 and is Sarbane Oxley compliant.

Our customers are the oil, gas and energy majors which set the highest requirements to safety and reliability standards. Our customers are Shell, Naturgy, Total, Endesa, Enel, PGNiG, Edison, Engie and Gasnor.

HSSE Policy

Shipping is being subjected to ever-stricter environmental and safety requirements, and Knutsen have the objectives concerning a high quality of the operation of the vessels. The fleet consists of modern vessels of high technical standards.

Knutsen places considerable emphasis on safety and quality control, and strict requirements are put on safety and operation of the vessels. Knutsen has established overall guidelines to ensure that:

  • The Knutsen activities shall be executed professionally and in accordance with national and international rules and regulations as well as internal and external standards and proactive actions shall be taken to avoid injuries, loss of life and material damages.
  • The Knutsen operations shall be planned and attention shall be made on executing activities and operations so that the environmental consequences are minimized.
  • The Knutsen HSSE & QA system, is in accordance with international requirements and standards, and the company maintains all necessary certificates for its operation of activities. Knutsen OAS Shipping AS has ISM certification from several flag-states and is further certified according to the international standards; ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018.

Knutsen has an active approach regarding implementation of technology for reducing emissions to water and air.
