Knutsen OAS shipping entered the LNG market after delivery of the first LNG carrier in 2004.
The first 138 400 m3 LNG carriers were built in Spain with steam turbine propulsion. During 2010 Knutsen took delivery of 4 vessels from DSME in Korea all with dual fuel engines.
All large LNG vessels have GTT NO 96 membrane cargo containment system. These large vessels are designed to transport LNG at an operation speed of 19.5 knots. To achieve this speed without having delays with hull cleaning etc. our vessels have highly advanced polymer based antifouling. One of our vessel has DNV ice class 1A and winterization notation. This vessel is constructed with super-reinforced cargo containment system.
Pioneer Knutsen is the smallest LNG carrier in the world delivering LNG along the Norwegian coast. This vessel have two high pressure tanks installed carrying a total amount of 1100 cbm LNG. This small flexible vessel has experience on ship-to-ship transfer and plan to do ship-to-ship bunkering in the future, and delivers LNG fuel to many of the ferries bunkering terminals and other industry along the west coast.
Knutsen considers transportation of natural gas well suited within the Group’s strategy based on long-term contracts to first class charterers and regards it as an important business area for the company in the future.
The first LNG carriers entered the market already in 2004. Pioneer Knutsen is designed with two pressure tanks, while all large LNG carriers are designed with membrane tanks type NO96 or MARK III from GTT. The LNG carriers are built in Netherland, Spain and Korea (DSME).
