It is the stated policy of Knutsen OAS Shipping AS and its employees shall pay appropriate regard to the environment by acting to preserve air, water, soil, plant life and animals from adverse effects and to minimize any nuisance that may arise from our activities. We also believe that accidents – being harm to people, the environment or physical damage – don’t just happen, and are preventable.

Knutsen has a very strong focus on environmental issues, and is certified according to ISO 14001:2004. ISO 14001:2004, specifies requirements for an environmental management system to enable an organization to develop and implement a policy and objectives regarding pertinent environmental issues. This management system is to take into account legal requirements and other requirements to which the organization subscribes, and information about significant environmental aspects. It applies to those environmental aspects that the organization identifies as those which it can control and those which it can influence. It does not itself state specific environmental performance criteria; this is determined by the organization itself. [link to Knutsen environmental movie]

Our target is to have zero pollution incidents. Knutsen has also established a 5 year plan which includes 6 environmental projects: VOC management plans and KVOC (Knutsen technology), Ballast water treatment technology (Knutsen technology), fuel and energy conservation, NOx emissions, particulates emissions and fuel efficiency measures.

Near miss reporting is often associated with personal injury and material damages, events relating to the environment should not be forgotten. It is a requirement in certain areas to report all incidents or near misses related to the environment, reinforcing the need for environmental reporting.

Suggestion for Improvement

Suggestions for improvement with regards to the environment are highly valued and will be considered for best suggestion for improvement.

Knutsen and Green Award:

Knutsen NYK Offshore tankers has eleven (11) vessels approved by Green Award showing its commitment to an environmental policy. This provides many advantages in selected Green Award ports. Green Award ports provide environmental services such as: disposal of separated waste, therefore it is company policy to send waste ashore in ports accommodating for recycling (Green Award ports).
